Inglis graduates took out the Group 1 double in Adelaide today, which followed tough mare Alverta’s earlier breakthrough Coolmore Classic win at Rosehill.
The trio of wins was completed when ROSTOVA ($80,000 2008 Premier, 3f Testa Rossa-Space Talk) broke a 12 month run of outs when finishing too powerfully in the G1 Robert Sangster Stakes.
Steve Richards has done a wonderful job getting the filly back on track this campaign after a frustrating spring. Rostova was a juvenile star last year, winning four times at stakes level.
Her earnings now top $720,000.
Rostova’s win followed SMALL MINDS ($48,000 2008 Scone, 3f Canny Lad-Princess Marigold) in the Schweppes Oaks (see earlier release).
ALVERTA (P$20,000 2005 Easter, 6m Flying Spur-Grilse) became the first Group 1 winner for Paul Messara and the six-year-old is a credit to the young trainer, as she has raced every month since September last year.
Messara said Alverta – whose delayed stud career has proven a blessing – relishes the stable life and that showed when she overcame a tricky draw to score a comfortable win.
The Flying Spur mare, who races for Arrowfield interests, had won four times at stakes level previously and placed at Group 1 so her time in the spotlight has been well and truly earned. Her prizemoney is now just short of the $1million mark.
Flying Spur, a former Champion Sire of Australia, is represented by 55 yearlings in the catalogue for next month’s Easter Sale.
Alverta is the sixth Group 1 winner for Easter in the last two weeks, following Wanted, Zavite, Rock Classic, Zipping and Happy Zero.
The 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held in Sydney from April 6-8.
