Inglis Group 2 Treble at Eagle Farm

Another Chris Waller Group race double and a return to form by Peter Moody’s top filly Set For Fame again had Inglis graduates shining in Queensland today.

SET FOR FAME ($75,000 2008 Premier, 3f Reset-Northpoint) has already proven herself among the best fillies in the country, but today at Eagle Farm, she showed her toughness and resilience in winning the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes.

The Peter Moody trained filly had her spring campaign ruined by a bleeding attack, but she has made up for lost time this preparation, having raced in every month since January.

A Fulmen Park prepared yearling, she was a brilliant first up winner in January, a Group 2 winner in February and Group 1 Australian Guineas placed in March before a virus cut short her tilt at Sydney riches.

Moody is now eyeing off another Group 1 attempt in the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.

PRESSDAY ($38,000 2009 Classic, 2c Domesday-Kaaptive Empress) came out best in a roughhouse BRC Sires. It was the Chris Waller trained colt’s second Group 2 success in Melbourne and he will now most likely take his place in next week’s Group 1 T.J. Smith.

Pressday (pictured), who was prepared for sale by Glenarvon Park, is turning out to be a wonderful advertisement for his sire Domesday, a former Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Woodlands Stud.

Waller completed a winning double with TRIPLE HONOUR ($50,000, 2006 Classic, 5g Honours List-Myrrh), who took his earnings to the brink of $2million when proving too classy in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup.

The Widden Stud graduate had not won since the 2008 Premiere Stakes, but he has been most consistent this preparation, with this victory following placings in the Queen Elizabeth and Doomben Cup at Group 1 level.

Brave filly Marheta only narrowly failed to give Inglis graduates another Group 1 in the Queensland Oaks. The daughter of Al Maher, who was secured by Paul Moroney for $70,000 from Session II of the 2008 Easter Sale, hit the front turning for home, but was gunned down in the shadows of the post.
