Inglis Hosts International Thoroughbred Investors at Royal Ascot

13th Jun 2007

In order to capitalise on the extraordinary effort of the Aussie assault on Royal Ascot, William Inglis & Son is proud to be hosting an “Aussie Style BBQ” on Tuesday June 19 at Royal Ascot, the day the Group Two King’s Stand Stakes is run.

Hosted by Jamie Inglis and Matt Rudolph, the function will offer Australian style food, while Yalumba will supply the wine and champagne. “The response to the function has been overwhelming and is testament to the fantastic job William Inglis and Son’s European Representative January Farrington has done. An extremely proactive member of the firm, January has undertaken the huge task of liaising with all parties involved”, stated William Inglis & Sons Commercial Development Manager, Matt Rudolph.

Although the highlight of the trip is sure to be the action at Royal Ascot, both Jamie and Matt will also spend time visiting clients around England discussing the opportunities available within the Australian thoroughbred industry.

The aim of the function is two-fold, with it primarily being an opportunity for leading international bloodstock identities such as English trainer Ed Dunlop, Ben & Lucy Sangster of Swettenham Stud, Dermot and Perle O’Rourke of Plantation Stud, David and Diane Nagle of Barronstown Stud and many others, to gain a greater awareness to the Australian thoroughbred industry and to give the Australian trainers and connections an opportunity to interact and form relationships with global industry participants, while enjoying a great day’s racing.

Any possible relationships that can be built will form the foundation for later associations aimed at success. A first time participant at Easter this year, Kevin Buckley of Plantation Stud purchased a Flying Spur filly to go into training with Lee Freedman, highlighting the international acceptance of the Australian thoroughbred.

It also highlights the overwhelming support for not only the “Fantastic Four” as they are being dubbed by the English press, but also the Australasian thoroughbred in general. This globalisation of the industry is further highlighted when taking a look at recent success of William Inglis & Son graduates on the world stage.

Graduates of Australia’s leading auctioneering company have played a major part in drawing global focus to our industry with victories on the world stage by such outstanding individuals as Elvstroem and his Group One Dubai Duty Free win while Choisir’s memorable Royal Ascot double of the Group Two King’s Stand Stakes and the Group One Golden Jubilee Stakes will be forever remembered. Alinghi, Pompeii Ruler, Floral Pegasus and Silent Witness to name but a few have also scaled the heights of international acclaim in recent years.

The wraps came off the Aussie contingent as they worked for the media on Tuesday morning, with all trainers extremely satisfied with the way their last start Group One charges worked. We await with baited breath the highly anticipated clash next Tuesday.

Having been to Royal Ascot on numerous occasions, Sydney’s leading trainer Gai Waterhouse is there to put the final polish on Bentley Biscuit. Her ever effervescent self when discussing the chances of her galloper, Waterhouse felt, “I’m biased, but my horse has really pleased me. Takeover Target had beaten the best horses here last year and then we beat him on our last run. Takeover Target then went on to beat Gold Edition (Group One Doomben 10,000), the best filly we’ve seen since Sunline.”

Joe Janiak, trainer of Takeover Target felt that his five time Group One winner was in much better shape than he was 12 months ago. “He’s a lot fitter this time because he’s had the three runs at home under his belt.”

No matter what the results, the participation by Takeover Target, Bentley Biscuit, Miss Andretti and Magnus has further outlined the respect the global industry has for the immense talent ‘down under’. Tune in Wednesday morning at 1:05 am to watch the “Fantastic Four” take on the rest of the world in their own backyard and do Australia proud. C’mon Aussie C’mon!
