Inglis finished last season as the only sales company in the southern hemisphere to sell a Top 10 ranked youngster in the 2010-11 ANZ Classifications, and the performances of juveniles Raceway, Sweet Little Lies and Little Ducati across three states today put the writing on the wall for another big year for graduates of Inglis sales.
Raceway ($150,000 2011 Easter, 2c More Than Ready-Claws) was ultra-impressive on debut for Gai Waterhouse at Warwick Farm, taking out the ATC Warwick Farm 100 Club Plate (1000m) by four lengths in a slick 56.85 seconds.
Bred by the same breeder, Corumbene Stud, on the same More Than Ready / Flying Spur cross as Champion two-year-old Sebring, Raceway also carries the same famous colours as the 2008 Golden Slipper winner, those of Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds.
“He’s a really good horse. A really smart horse,” Denise Martin said following the demolition.
“Half of the Sebring group are in this horse as well as some other long time clients,” said Martin.
The class of Raceway was definitely not lost on top jockey Hugh Bowman
“He’s the best I’ve sat on for a while”, Bowman said.
Raceway will attempt in April to go one better than fellow Easter graduates Mosheen (by Fastnet Rock) and Elite Falls (by More Than Ready) who filled the placing’s behind Darley’s hombred Sepoy in last year’s Group 1 ATC Golden Slipper Stakes.
Earlier in the day at Caulfield Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra revealed the top potential of juvenile filly Sweet Little Lies, who showed abundant speed at both ends of the MRC Thomas North Plate (1100m) to score by just under five lengths.
Sweet Little Lies (P$45,000 2011 Classic, 2f Elusive Quality-Borobodur) was not entered for the $1million Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes, but the Victorian juvenile showcase will still remain the aim for the impressive filly.
“We will probably have a go at the Blue Diamond races now,” Simon Zahra said.
“She would need to win the Blue Diamond Preview for us to consider paying a late entry fee for the Blue Diamond but she showed she is capable of doing it,” Zahra added.
Sweet Little Lies was offered at the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling, the sale responsible for last season’s Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes placegetters Uate (by Ad Valorem) and Pane In the Glass (by Testa Rossa).
The Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale was not to left out of the two-year-old winners today, with the Kane Karris trained Little Ducati ($10,000 2011 Premier, 2f Bel Esprit-Ellie Cat) winning the juvenile event at Morphettville, the SAJC Sportingbet Plate (1050m).
Melbourne Premier was responsible for 2011 Blue Diamond placegetters Hallowell Belle (by Starcraft) and Masthead (by Written Tycoon) as well as Triple Crown’s speedster Hot Snitzel (by Snitzel) who finished second in the Group 1 BRC T J Smith Stakes last season.
“Inglis were very pleased to see Darley have success with their two-year-olds last season, and although it was unfortunate for our clients to keep running second and third in the big Group 1’s, it was great to see our two-year-olds like Foxwedge and Mosheen measure up in the spring three-year-old features,” said Inglis Sydney Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.
“There is much anticipation around Inglis graduates such as Manawanui, Pinker Pinker and Black Caviar hitting the track for the big Group 1 races in the next few months, and certainly plenty of excitement around the uncovering of exciting two-year-olds such as Raceway and Sweet Little Lies,” D’Arcy said.
