Inglis Mares Complete Spring Grand Slam

Following Caulfield Cup winner Viewed and Cox Plate winner So You Think, mares sold through Inglis broodmare sales completed the spring carnival 'big three' today when Shocking landed the G1 Melbourne Cup.

The Mark Kavanagh trained Shocking was originally 'sold' through the famous Inglis Newmarket sales ring being carried by his dam Maria Di Castiglia.

The Danehill mare was sold to Ilala Stud's George Fraser for just $20,000 at the 2004 Inglis Christmas Thoroughbred Sale, in foal to Street Cry, carrying a foal that became famous today as the winner of the 2009 Melbourne Cup.

Shocking's win completes the spring 'grand slam' for mares sold at Inglis auctions.

This year's Caulfield Cup winner Viewed is from the Khozaam mare Lovers Knot, who was sold at the 2000 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $36,000.

Cox Plate winner So You Think is from the Tights mare Triassic, who was knocked down for just $16,000 at the 2005 Australian Broodmare Sale before being sent to High Chaparral later that year.

Shocking's victory today also put the focus on Horses in Training Sales, as he was secured by owner Lawrence Eales for just $64,000 at a ready to run sale in 2007.

Next week, Inglis offers an outstanding catalogue of Horses in Training at the inaugural Australian Racehorse Sale, to be held at Oaklands on Sunday, November 15.

In addition to Shocking's Melbourne Cup victory, Inglis graduates enjoyed great success at Flemington, winning four of the 10 races on the program.

Emulating the stunning win of Premier sale star Rostova in the same race 12 months ago, Inglis graduates landed the quinella in the Listed AGL Renewable Energy Stakes (1000m).

The Robbie Laing trained SHE'S GOT GEARS ($45,000 2009 Autumn, 2f Invincible Spirit-Last Minute) was able to stave off the challenge of SHAAHEQ ($350,000 2009 Easter, 2f Redoute’s Choice-Damaschino).

She's Got Gears was offered for sale by Kedarona Stud and adds to the great record of bargain priced purchases from the Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale.

In the following event AVIENUS (P$28,000 2007 Premier, 4m Reset-Genova) finished best to land the Schiavello Plate (1700m).

The third Inglis winner arrived in the shape of stakes winning colt COMMON INTEREST ($485,000 2008 Easter, 3c More Than Ready-Common Smytzer) who finished best to win the Schweppes Tonic (1000m). The Blue Sky Thoroughbreds and Arrowfield Stud raced colt was previously a stakes winner down the Flemington straight last autumn.

Rounding out the day, in form mare FLYING TESSIE ($50,000 2007 Premier, 4m Testa Rossa-Paris Plaits) outshone her male rivals to comfortably win The TAB Big 6 (1400m).

Flying Tessie is now the winner of five races in just nine starts for earnings topping $125,000.
