The catalogue for the 2009 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, to be held from March 1-4 and comprising 780 lots, is now on-line.
The sale is broken up into two parts, with Session I having 613 lots and Session II 167. In all, 463 colts have been catalogued and 317 fillies.
With two of the highest rated horses in the world in Sacred Kingdom and Weekend Hussler highlighting the feats of its graduates, Premier rose to stunning new heights in 2008, breaking all previous records.
“There’s no doubt Premier was one of the great success stories of 2008 but it didn’t just come out of the blue – vendors have been bringing top quality horses to this sale for some time and it was great to see them well rewarded,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
Webster pointed out that Weekend Hussler and Sacred Kingdom had many support acts in flying the Premier flag.
“Recent Group 1 winners like Arapaho Miss, Blutigeroo and the marvel Fields Of Omagh also illustrate the great quality on offer at Premier,” he said.
“And it’s happening again this season. Already in 2008-09, Premier has produced no less than 13 individual stakes winners, highlighted by the Group 1 winners Littorio and Weekend Hussler, G1 placed Bank Robber and the outstanding juvenile prospect Rostova.”
Vendors have again got behind the 2009 sale, with buyers certain to be impressed with the strong array of top pedigrees and good types on the ground at Oaklands in March.
Buyers have progeny of 107 stallions to choose from, with Elvstroem (55) the most represented. Fellow Victorian based sires God’s Own (31), Reset (28) and Bel Esprit (22) also feature strongly.
Fastnet Rock (26), Snitzel (25) and Flying Spur (22) have good-sized drafts, as does Rostova’s sire Testa Rossa (19), while buyers have 18 Hussonets to choose from in their search for the next Weekend Hussler.
Europe’s Champion Sire Galileo has 13 yearlings set to go under the hammer at Oaklands in March.
The catalogue boasts 19 siblings to Group 1 winners, including Apache Cat, Regal Roller, Grand Journey, Rinky Dink, Sudurka, Riva San and Carnegie Express. There’s also half or full relations to the likes of multiple G1 placed Turffontein, G2 winner De Lago Mist and fellow stakes winners Royal Sash, Maloose and Wildly.
