Inglis Open Asian Headquarters

Inglis managing director Mark Webster today announced that Australia’s leading thoroughbred auctioneers will be expanding into Asia.

Inglis Asia will be based in Singapore in order to service the broader Asian region's growing demand for racing stock and bloodstock services. Sydney based member of the firm Peter Twomey will relocate with his wife Georgia in November to take up the position as Inglis Asia's Representative.

A Sydney University graduate of Economics and from a keen racing background, Peter has acquired a broad range of skills and experience within the racing industry. Prior to joining Inglis Peter completed two years of service with International Racehorse Transport and six months at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.

Since joining Inglis in 2007 he has fulfilled roles within both the Bloodstock and Commercial Development Departments, where he has been an integral part of establishing the $2.6million Inglis Race Series and implementing a new buyer recruitment strategy.

"Australia is well known for producing the strong and tough sprinter-milers that have excelled in the world rankings for a number of years, and we are keen to ensure that these qualities are well known to these growing Asian markets" said Managing Director Mark Webster.

"Inglis graduates dominated the Hong Kong racing season and as we continue to sell more yearlings to Singapore and China we have become increasingly aware of our commitment to servicing those regions while being in close proximity to other major racing centres throughout Asia.

"Mainland China has purchased more than 60 yearlings from Inglis over the past 18 months, including nine well bred yearlings from the 2010 Easter Yearling Sale. Over the past two years our sales to Hong Kong have risen by 15 percent and Singapore exports have doubled. We expect further growth in the years ahead and Peter will work closely with local contacts and agents in a wide range of Asian countries. He will also provide on the ground support for Inglis directors and senior staff on their regular trade missions and visits to Asia.

"Peter's placement in Singapore is also timely with our significant investment in the Inglis partnered S$1million Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series for two-year-olds, starting in 2011", Webster added.

Peter Twomey will be travelling to Singapore, China and Hong Kong in the coming months to participate in various Inglis trade missions before taking up his permanent appointment in November.

"There exists a great opportunity for the Australian thoroughbred in the rapid growth markets of Asia, and I am very excited to take up this position to develop those markets further", said Peter Twomey.

"Inglis have been the leading thoroughbred auctioneers in Australasia for over a century and I am looking forward to working closely with our clients, ensuring that their needs are met at any time of the year."
