22nd Nov 2005

William Inglis & Son today announced the finalisation of a sponsorship agreement with the Melbourne Racing Club for the 2006 $500,000 Inglis Premier race for two-year-olds to be held at Classic Caulfield.

Under the terms of the agreement, the 2006 Inglis Premier will be programmed on the Futurity Stakes meeting on Saturday, March 4.

Horses eligible to contest the 1200 metre feature event must have been purchased at the 2005 Inglis Premier & Premier II Yearling Sales or the Armidale Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

The Inglis Premier race was introduced in 2002 and has previously been run at Flemington.

William Inglis & Son Director, Peter Heagney said “ We are delighted to be able to hold our race at Classic Caulfield on Futurity Stakes day. It will be an exciting prelude to our Premier Yearling Sales on the following 3 days".

Melbourne Racing Club Chief Executive Warran Brown said the Club was proud to welcome William Inglis & Son as a first-time sponsor and to attract another showpiece race to add to its growing list of feature events for two-year-olds at Classic Caulfield.

“The inclusion of the Inglis Premier is an exciting addition to our two-year-old features in 2006 which include the AAMI Blue Diamond series in January and February and the Blue Sapphire Classic in May,” Mr. Brown commented.

“Importantly, the involvement of the Futurity Stakes in the expanded Asian Mile Challenge series will enhance the local and international profile of all races on the March 4 programme, including the Inglis Premier,” he observed.
