William Inglis and Son Ltd are delighted to be sponsoring the time honoured Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes for two year olds at Royal Randwick this Saturday.
“Derby Day at Royal Randwick is one of the great days of Australian racing and as the leading bloodstock company in Australasia we are thrilled to be a part of this fabulous event,” said Inglis Managing Director, Reg Inglis.
The $420,000 Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes Gr 1 has attracted an outstanding field of 12 runners highlighted by Golden Slipper winner Stratum and runner-up Fashions Afield.
“In fact, four of the first five home in the Golden Slipper will be lining up in the Inglis Sires’ Produce, so it should be a tremendous race,” added Inglis.
Seeking to turn the tables on Stratum and Fashions Afield will be the Ingham owned John Hawkes trained pair, Mnemosyne and Domesday, who finished fourth and fifth in the Golden Slipper.
The Encosta de Lago filly Mnemosyne looks particularly well placed over the Randwick 1400 metre journey after flashing home for fourth in the Slipper. On that occasion she began slowly and settled at the rear, before rocketing home to be beaten less than three lengths on the line.
Purchased by Woodlands Stud for $400,000 at the 2004 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Mnemosyne was (at the time) the most expensive yearling by her sire to be sold at public auction and still remains his highest priced filly.
Like his stablemate Mnemosyne, Domesday was also purchased by Woodlands Stud from the 2004 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The handsome son of Red Ransom (USA) was secured for $420,000 and is already a Group Two winner, having taken out the STC Silver Slipper Stakes Gr 2 at Rosehill last month.
