The inaugural Inglis Sydney Ready 2 Race Sale set a new benchmark for breeze up sales in Australasia when it concluded at Newmarket this afternoon with an record average price of A$76,742 and median of A$60,000.
“I am delighted to have set a new Australasian record average price and median for this type of sale in our first year. We’ve had wonderful support from leading vendors in Australia and New Zealand, and are well placed to take this sale to greater heights next year,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
“I’m also thrilled with the quality and diversity of the buying bench who have supported this sale, with both local and international buyers getting behind this new select sale format. The only downside was the clearance rate at fall of hammer, something we will aim to improve in the coming days and next year by being even more selective when assembling the catalogue,” said Webster.
24 lots sold for $100,000 or more during the ‘select’ sale with buyers from Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, South Africa, USA and Australia snapping up the quality two and three-year-olds on offer.
Three-year-old colt Distorted Demand (Red Ransom-Twisted Heart) topped the sale when selling to Sydney trainer Mauro Poletti for $310,000 when offered by Carinya Lodge as the last lot of the sale, Lot 195
The top price recorded for the two-year-old offerings was $280,000, shared by Lot 88 and Lot 165
Woodside Park Stud’s colt by Exceed And Excel from Investment Grade (Lot 88) was bought by Hong Kong agent George Moore.
Beatson Stables colt by High Chaparral from Tick By (Lot 165) was sold to Warwick Farm trainer David Vandyke.

The leading individual buyer was Singapore trainer Patrick Shaw, who purchased 6 lots for $740,000, including Muskoka Farm’s colt by Tale Of The Cat from Dragon Maiden Lot 55for $210,000.
“Lyndhurst Farm from New Zealand and local consignor Muskoka Farm deserve a special mention for both selling six out of six and maintaining such a high standard. They are leading the way and have demonstrated that it is possible to pinhook quality yearlings and generate healthy returns in this type of sale,” adds Mark Webster.
“It also goes to show that this type of sale is not all about breezing up in fast times. Buyers are able to take into account the condition of the track and seem more focused on the quality of the animal and the style of the breeze up, rather than how quick they run. This is exactly how it should be,” Webster said.
Muskoka Farm was one of 16 vendors that finished the sale with a 100% clearance rate having netted $595,000 for their six colts offered.
Lyndhurst Farm from New Zealand had an outstanding sale selling all six of their offerings at an average of $143,333.
