9th Feb 2014
The 2014 racing year started to sizzle on Saturday and yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier and Australian Easter Yearling Sales were huge beneficiaries through the deeds of their stakes winning siblings and exceptional sires.
Siblings to multiple stakes winners over the weekend are set to be offered at Premier and Easter, including the sister of Gr.1 MRC C.F. Orr Stakes winner Moment Of Change.
184 yearlings to be auctioned by Inglis in Melbourne and Sydney over the next nine weeks are by sires that had stakes winning progeny in Australia on Saturday.
Victory in Australia’s first Group 1 event of 2014 added further value to Moment Of Change’s younger sister, also by Barely A Moment, that will be offered by Cornerstone Stud as Lot 197 at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
A half-brother to Gr.3 MRC Blue Diamond Prelude runner-up Jabali will also go through the Oaklands ring at Premier. Kornong Stud will offer the well-related colt by Denman as Lot 53 on the opening day of the four day sale.
Melbourne Premier graduate Chase The Rainbow pushed the focus onto his younger sibling and his sire’s progeny with victory in the Gr.3 MRC Carlyon Cup over 1600m.
Chase The Rainbow (Dash For Cash x Illusional) was a $90,000 purchase by trainer Rick Hore-Lacy from the draft of Swettenham Stud at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Swettenham Stud will bring 31 yearlings to this year’s Melbourne Premier Sale including four lots by Dash For Cash. The Premier Sale will be conducted on 2, 3, 4 and 5 March 2014.
The half-sister by New Approach to Chase The Rainbow will be offered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds as Lot 47 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which will be held on 8, 9 and 10 April in Sydney.
Also on offer at Easter will be the yearling half-brother to Amorino which scored a three length win in the Listed WATC Cyril Flower Stakes on Saturday. The yearling colt by Sebring from Steal My Love will be offered by Widden Stud as Lot 225 on the second day of the prestigious auction.
Both the Melbourne Premier and Australian Easter Yearling Sale catalogues are packed with stock by Australia’s leading sires which again came to the fore with Group winners in Sydney and Melbourne plus stakes winners in Perth on Saturday.
Exceed And Excel, the sire of Blue Diamond favourite Earthquake, will be represented by 12 yearlings at Premier in Melbourne and 26 yearlings at Easter in Sydney.
Encosta de Lago notched up his 100th stakes winner when Rubick won his Blue Diamond Prelude. There are 20 yearlings by Encosta set for sale at Premier and 11 at Easter.
Lankan Rupee and A Time For Julia’s sire Redoute’s Choice has his greatest ever representation at Premier this year with 10 yearlings. The champion stallion also has 36 yearlings in the 2014 Easter catalogue.
Commands, the sire of Gr.2 ATC Expressway Stakes winner Appearance, is represented by 6 yearlings at Premier and 10 at Easter this year.
35 yearlings by Amorino’s sire Snitzel, which currently leads the 2013/14 Australian sires premiership, are set to be auctioned by Inglis; 18 in Melbourne and 17 in Sydney.
775 lots by 103 various sires have been catalogued for the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
