Joyful news for Emirates Victoria

AAP Breeding - Thoroughbred Express - Thursday, 23 April 2009

Emirates Park Victoria will sell yearlings from the last commercial crop of El Moxie at the Inglis Victorian Autumn Sale this weekend.

El Moxie (Conquistador Cielo) is now in retirement at the Digger's Rest farm after failing fertility reduced him to just four live foals in 2008.

El Moxie (pictured) added another feature winner to his record when Joyful Winner scored a G1 victory in the Macau Hong Kong Trophy (1500m) at Taipa on April 12. Joyful Winner has now earned the equivalent of A$3.5 million and has been an incredible money spinner for connections after being purchased for just $24,000 at the 2002 Gold Coast Magic Millions National Sale.

His dam Northern Tycoon (Last Tycoon) has a yearling filly by El Moxie that has been retained by Farooq Breeding and Racing.

El Moxie has been a superb advertisement for Emirates Park and Super VOBIS since G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Alfa emerged from his second crop in 1993.

He has 10 yearlings catalogued for the Oaklands Junctions Sale this coming Sunday and Monday (April 26 & 27) including two colts and a filly from Emirates.

The colt from Nightly Class (Lot 342) is a half-brother to three winners by Secret Savings including Singapore stakes performer Lim's Secret. He raced here as Piping and was a 2yo winner at Caulfield when trained by Brad Marzato for Lloyd Williams.

El Moxie is best known as the sire of world champion sprinter Silent Witness who won 9 Group 1 events in Hong Kong and Japan. Gai Waterhouse paid $25,000 for an El Moxie-Destiny colt from the immediate family of Silent Witness at the 2009 Inglis Classic Sale.

Gai also trained Al Samer who has members of his first crop at Oaklands Junction. He is by Redoute's Choice and retired to Emirates Park after winning the G3 Black Opal Stakes and the LR Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill.

His top priced yearling so far was also sold at the Classic Sale in February. Agent Jon Freyer paid $135,000 for an Al Samer - Floribunda filly who is a half-sister to Sydney sprinter Royal Esprit (Bel Esprit).

The Al Samer yearlings for sale at Oaklands Junction this weekend will be much more affordable.

Emirates Victoria manager Eddie Alvares has 15 Al Samer lots going under the hammer including a half-sister to the Richard Jolly trained filly Miss Piggy Bank (Lot 222) who has won and been stakes placed at Morphettville this season. Their dam Fawayez (Royal Academy) is a winning half-sister to Danehill's G3 Blue Diamond Prelude winner Faiza.
