Key metrics were up during Session Two of the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale that concluded at Oaklands on Wednesday.
“The gross and clearance rate are up with the average and median comparable to last year, which is all pleasing results,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney
“Again it was a selective market today, but it was good to see 20 lots sell for $50,000 or more, which is up from 15 recorded last year,” Heagney noted.
118 lots were sold for $3,341,045 during Session Two. The average price recorded was $28,314, median $22,000 and clearance rate of 72%.

The top price recorded today was $110,000 for Lot 691 Eliza Park Stud’s colt by Holy Roman Emperor from Exact which was purchased by John Foote Bloodstock on behalf of Hong Kong trainer David Hall, who was down inspecting at Oaklands earlier in the week.
Roy Higgins & Wylie Dalziel Racing purchased the second highest priced lot in Session Two when paying $95,000 for Lot 765, a filly by Real Saga from Pasiphae that was offered by Damian White Bloodstock.
Victorian buyers were keen to snap up many of the Super VOBIS yearlings offered on Day Four of Melbourne Premier, but had good competition from interstate and overseas. International buyers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa featured on the buyers list today.

“It has been a great four days here in Melbourne, with Session One continuing it’s amazing run as the only major thoroughbred auction in Australia to achieve an increase in average in eight of the last nine years and Session Two continuing to go from strength to strength,” Heagney added.
“Results from Monday’s ‘Blue Riband’ clearly show that there is strong demand here in Melbourne for yearlings bred with Derby’s and Cup’s in mind and we look forward to building on the concept in the coming years.
“Private sales have lifted the Session One clearance rate up 3 percent since last night and our bloodstock team will continue working on any Make-An-Offer enquiries over the coming days,” said Heagney.
Horses passed in over the last four days are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.
