Khoo’s Warrior Captures The Golden Horseshoe Series Opener

Kubera Warrior achieved up a number of firsts in Singapore on Sunday afternoon when capturing the S$90,000 Inglis Sydney Juvenile Stakes over 1000m on the polytrack.

The race was not just the first leg of the 2015 edition of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series for two-year-olds, but trainer Leslie Khoo’s first ever win in the series which has been going since 2011 thanks to the sponsorship of Aushorse, Inglis, Magic Millions and International Racehorse Transport.

Kubera Warrior (Coats Choice x Raewyn Coup) led home a quinella for his sire, a well-bred son of Redoute’s Choice, when defeating Fine Choice by one and a half lengths, while Celeritas was back in third.

Leslie Khoo gave his two-year-old a hit-out two weeks ago and the juvenile’s strong second placing then gave him plenty of hope going into today’s event and for the future.

“I was quite confident he could win with the way he ran at his debut. He’s got the raw talent. I think he can go over a bit of a trip as well,” said Khoo.

Kubera Warrior and Fine Choice’s sire Coats Choice is a well-bred son of Redoute’s Choice that was purchased by Slade Bloodstock as an Inglis Easter Yearling and showed tremendous precocity to place in the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes in October of his two-year-old year.

The Inglis Sydney Juvenile Stakes run today is the first leg of the S$1,000,000 Golden Horseshoe Series which culminates in the Singapore Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe (1200m) on Friday 15 May.

S$30,000 bonuses are offered to the winner of each of the first five legs on the series if the winner is a ‘Qualified Australian Bred’. An S$75,000 Bonus is offered on the sixth and final leg of the series, plus any jackpot bonuses that were not won on the preceding five legs.

Although both his sire and dam are Australian bred Kubera Warrior is not, so the S$30,000 Bonus today jackpots onto the Golden Horseshoe on 15 May.
