Lindsay Park Clean Up Inglis Cup And Trainers' Bonus

The four-year-old Firehouse Rock showed progressive ability today flying down the outside of the field to win the inaugural $250,000 Inglis Cup for Lindsay Park racing and in the process secured the $50,000 Inglis Race Series Trainers' Bonus for David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

After jumping well in the 2000m event, Firehouse Rock (Fastnet Rock x Bird Of Fire) settled back in the field and after gaining a clear run made his challenge down the straight finishing in powerful fashion ahead of fellow Inglis Premier graduates Gloryland and Bondeiger. Steering the gelding to victory was Dwayne Dunn, who received credit from Co-trainer Tom Dabernig.

"The key to him is you've got to hold him up and get him a little bit of cover, and produce him at the right time. Dwayne Dunn rode a perfect race on that horse," Dabernig said.

A $450,000 purchase for the partnership of Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and McKeever Bloodstock from the Esker Lodge draft at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Firehouse Rock’s last victory was in another Inglis Race Series event at Caulfield, where he earned his connections a $100,000 Inglis Bonus on top of the $80,000 winner’s cheque.

"The Inglis Cup is a great initiative and a terrific result for the owners,” said Dabernig.

"One of the part-owners bred Firehouse Rock and is sending his full brother to Inglis Easter next year, so this will certainly help him sell even better,” Dabernig added.

The Inglis Cup is the last contest in the $5 million Inglis Race Series, and the third victory in the series for 2013 yearling purchases for the Lindsay Park partnership, seeing them walk away with the $50,000 Trainers' Bonus, along with a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars. Antler Luggage was awarded to winning jockey Dwayne Dunn and to the managing owners.

The introduction of the Inglis Cup over 2000m was a natural progression from the Blue Riband session, which was first included in the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2013 when today’s runners were sold as yearlings. The session is designed to highlight middle-distance and staying type horses, built to excel in their classic year onwards.

The Inglis Cup is the longest sales restricted race in Australia, and positioning it early on in the Spring Carnival makes it an ideal stepping stone for four-year-old Inglis graduates to greater spring riches.

Firehouse Rock was bred by Mr JB Stokes and races for Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Mrs D Stokes, Racing Zone, St Hill Racing, Mr S C Lord, Kahlefeldt Family Racing, Mrs S J Lord, Beejayville Racing, Mr S N Davidson, Mr M L Byrne, Mr T G Mangan, Mr A Yee, Mr R Talarico and Vortex Golfers.

Firehouse Rock is just one of 12 2013 Inglis yearling sale graduates that has won Inglis Race Series events across their two-year-old, three-year-old and four-year-old years. Other 2013 Inglis graduates to have won events in the lucrative Inglis Race Series are Mossfun, Peggy Jean, Silversands, Gold Force, Klammer, Hunters Grace, Sure And Fast, Voodoo Lad, Sebrella, Jurasound and Loved Up. The series has sponsored 14 events across ten different tracks in Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
