A long-time sponsor of the Cambridge Jockey Club has stepped up to the black-type mark with support for one of the feature events at Te Rapa on Saturday week.

William Inglis & Son has been sponsoring races at the two CJC meetings for at least the last 20 years and next weekend will sponsor the three-year-old event, which has been run since 1968.

The Group III $70,000 Inglis Sales Cambridge Breeders Stakes is the focus for many of the country's top sprinting three-year-olds and among the contestants this year will be Tavy, a Listed winner and Group II placegetter who won well at this week's Te Awamutu trials.

"It's great to have William Inglis & Son increasing its sponsorship with our club and coming on board sponsoring one of our flagship races on our Premier day," said Tony Pike, CJC's acting president. "It's always been a hot race and this year should be no exception."

Right from the outset when the Ivan Robinson owned and trained pair of Bardall and Piko were successful in the first two runnings, the Cambridge Breeders Stakes has been won by a host of top horses, including Panzer Chief, Shifnal Chief, Uncle Remus, Poetic Prince, Red Tempo, Vice Regal, Isle Of Man and Steely Dan.
