The Inglis Australian Racehorse Sale was held in Melbourne today, with more than $1million traded during the session.
Emerging young trainer Jason Warren went to $120,000 to secure the top priced lot of the sale, a colt by outstanding stallion Lonhro. The colt was offered in the breeze-up section by Bell River Thoroughbreds and is from the stakes placed Danehill mare Spire.
Top class racehorse Here De Angels was knocked down to NSW veterinarian Dr John Crowley for $82,000.
In the General Session, the Darley draft yielded the top six priced lots. Albury trainer Brett Cavanough secured the top two lots, with recent Caulfield winner Sleepers (Canny Lad) going for $50,000 and Shamardal gelding Garvan fetching $46,000.
“A lot of people were surprised just how strong the racehorse section was,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.
“There was great demand for any racehorse that had disclosed form, as evidenced by the clearance rate of 96% in that section.”
Overall, 102 horses sold today for $1,077,400 at a clearance rate of 86%.
Horses passed in during today’s sale are still available via the Inglis Make an Offer service.
Next Sunday, Inglis will host a sale of a different kind, with The Cup Dispersal Sale, featuring horses, gear and equipment used in the making of the film "The Cup". The sale will be held at Oaklands next Sunday November 21 from 11am. In addition to horses used in the film, autographed memorabilia from the film will also be available, including race silks.
The next Inglis Sale is the Sydney Summer Thoroughbred Sale at Newmarket on December 3, followed by the Melbourne December Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands on December 17.
