With eight winners in the past seven days including Group I Doomben 10,000 heroine Beaded, Darley based Lonhro has edged to the lead on the Australian Generals Sires List by earnings.
Not only does he lead by earnings, but the son of Octagonal is also the equal leading sire by stakes-winners, sharing that honour with Redoute’s Choice on 12.
Lonhro will stand the coming season at Darley at a fee of $77,000, which is down slightly on his 2010 fee of $88,000, a fee that represented a massive hike on 2009 when he stood for a modest $33,000 and covered his biggest ever book of 212 mares.
The breeders that dived in at the rock bottom $33,000 in 2009 deserve congratulations on a nice piece of crystal ball judgement as they will no doubt reap some pretty big rewards in the sale ring next year... sometimes the broodmare owner can win!
