Luskin Park Celebrates Stakes Success for Dublin Lass

Talented O’Reilly mare Dublin Lass (pictured as a yearling) has threatened to win a stakes race for some time and got the job done at Doomben on Saturday when she unleashed her trademark burst of acceleration to power clear and win the Listed BRC Bright Shadow Quality.

Previously prepared by John O’Shea, Dublin Lass (O'Reilly x Fashion Police) has blossomed for Peter and Paul Snowden and came into this event off a last start second in the Listed BRC Juanmo Stakes earlier this month.

Ridden patiently by Tommy Berry, Dublin Lass settled just off the pace and when asked for an effort in the straight produced a slick change of gear to motor past her rivals and win the 1200 metre sprint with authority.

The four year old daughter of champion New Zealand sire O’Reilly has six wins and four seconds from just 14 starts with prizemoney topping $270,000.

Dublin Lass was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Luskin Park and runs for a syndicate that includes her breeders Paul Whelan and Wilf Mula.

"It’s a great result for Paul and Wilf as winning a Black Type race with her is all they’ve ever wanted to do,” said Peter Snowden.

"She’s come back a more complete racehorse this time. We’ve been riding her to save her for that last little burst and it’s paying off.

"The Tatts Tiara (Group I) is three weeks away and she’s racing well, so it’s more than likely that’s where she’ll head.”

Dublin Lass is the first foal of lightly raced Elusive Quality (USA) mare Fashion Police, a grand-daughter of Group II winner Fine Recipe from the family of Group I VATC Blue Diamond winner Midnight Fever and Group I VRC Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic, who was also bred and sold by Luskin Park.

The second foal of Fashion Police is smart three year-old winner Mr Manhattan and Luskin Park sold her Starcraft yearling colt for $200,000 at Magic Millions this year to Hawkes Racing.

Fashion Police is due to foal this spring to Snitzel.

Dublin Lass has the honour of being the 80th stakes-winner for O’Reilly, who died last year at Waikato Stud at age 21.
