MACAU: Moore Holding On To Premiership Lead

Racing And Sports - Harry Troy in Macau - Monday, 22 August 2011

Trainer Gary Moore's rising star Trust Me Bet had no problems making it three wins from as many starts when he destroyed his opponents over 1300 metres on the all weather on Saturday.

Ridden by regular jockey Louis Corrales, Trust Me Bet led pretty much from the outset and had them all off the bridle as far as 500 metres out, to record an easy win in a time of 19.1 which was .04 quicker then the Class 2 & 3 earlier in the day.

Trust Me Bet is by the former 2004 US Eclipse Champion Male Turf Horse Kitten's Joy who from 14 starts won nine races and placed second on three more occasions.

To date all three starts for Trust Me Bet have been on the all weather, but breeding suggest he will be a force to be reckoned with when Moore does step him out on the turf, however that won't be anytime soon according to the Champion trainer.

“I am actually going to back him up next weekend in the Class 3 over 1300 on the sand” Moore said.

“I want to get his rating up to have a crack at the International Sand Premier Cup in November.”

Moore has been waging an intriguing battle all year with Patrick Lee for trainer's honours and goes into the final weekend of the season in the enviable position of a three win lead with 52 wins.

“Yes it's a great position to be in but I am not getting too carried away with things yet, it may well go right down to the wire, anything is possible in racing.”

“Look what happened with my brother John and Tony Cruz in Hong Kong this season.”

“Tony was something like seven in front with just a couple of weeks to go and John beat him on the last day.”

“I will have 18 runners over the final two days and looking at the program Patrick will have a big team as well.”

Moore is eying off his fifth Macau Trainers Title and looking to make it back to back titles after being crowned Champion for the fourth time last season on 68 winners.

Manoel Nunes, currently taking a well earned break in Brazil has already wrapped his fifth Macau Jockeys' Title with 88 victories.
