Owners: Woodlands Stud

Recording back to back wins for William Inglis & Son and in particular the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Forensics’ victory in last weeks Group One STC Golden Slipper Stakes leaves no better candidate for this months award than the highly talented and impressive Flying Spur filly.

Forensics recorded a brilliant debut run back in early February at Canterbury Park that had many judges touting her at that early stage as a contender for the word’s richest 2YO race.

Scoring by 3 lengths from stablemate Lobola, Forensics had a few weeks off before tackling the Group Three AJC Kindergarten Stakes at Warwick Farm. Scoring by a little under a length, the filly then headed towards the Group Two STC Reisling Slipper Trial against many of the leading slipper chances. Running a credible fourth, the filly was to have her next start in the $3.5 million Group One STC Golden Slipper.

Racing in Woodlands’ third set of silks, the Black, white star and cap, Forensics jumped from the inside gate, incidentally the same gate her sire jumped from in 1995. Settling a few lengths off the leader under champion jockey Damien Oliver, the John Hawkes trained filly only had to come around one horse to score a memorable short neck victory over Zizou.

The victory of the filly helped elevate her sire, Flying Spur into an elite group of stallions that have both won the event themselves and have later sired a winner of the race. The prizemoney also lifting Flying Spur into the lead of both the General Leading Sire and 2YO Leading Sire listings.

Bred by Vinery Stud and later sold to Arrowfield Stud as a weanling, the then unnamed filly was sold through the 2006 William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Sale. After coming through the rigorous selection process placed on yearlings by the Woodlands Stud team, the filly then earnt a place on their ‘must have’ list.

The most expensive Flying Spur yearling sold to date at $900,000, her purchase price now becomes irrelevant as the filly has earnt over double that from only four career starts, adding to that her unmeasurable broodmare value upon her race track retirement. Since her purchase at last year’s William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the pedigree has not only received significant updates through that of Forensics herself and Zizou, but the David Hayes trained Rewaaya has since gone on to Group One glory as well, making this pedigree all the more desirable.

William Inglis & Son would like to congratulate the connections of Forensics for her Golden Slipper victory and wish them the best of luck for her future racing and breeding career.
