May Horse Of The Month

5th Jun 2006

William Inglis & Son is immensely proud of its graduates who every month promote our name in winners circles around the globe.

This month we are delighted to recognise the achievements of

ABOVE DECK

Breeding: 5yo gelding by Bianconi (USA) ex Hafla, by At Talaq (USA)
Vendor: Ealing Park as Agent for Russet Stud
Owner: Mr J Munz & Ms M Batten
Trainer: J T Conlan

The indisputable winner of May’s Horse Of The Month award is Above Deck.

Above Deck’s commanding 2 length victory in the Group 1 Doomben Cup at WFA highlighted exactly why he is a worthy candidate for the honour of Horse Of The Month. Defeating a high-class field which contained Group 1 winners Ike’s Dream, Mahtoum and Roman Arch, the win by the son of Bianconi capped off a great campaign in which he also netted the Albury Cup, AJC JRA Plate (Listed), as well as the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast.

Trained at Cape Schanck, the much travelled Melbourne based galloper obviously prefers running clock-wise, highlighted by the fact that 7 of his 10 wins have been run in that direction.

With his ultimate aim being the WS Cox Plate next campaign, Above Deck is bound to resume his rivalry with many of the WFA gallopers that he competed against in his most recent campaign.

Inglis Director, Jonathan D’Arcy stated that, “The owners of Above Deck Jonathan Munz and Marita Batten put many hours of hard work into researching each of the major yearling sales of the year. Their inspection team looks at every horse entered and so it is great to see them rewarded with a brilliant galloper like Above Deck. Another Group One graduate from the popular Melbourne Premier Yearling sale Above Deck hails from the first crop of the under rated Danzig sire Bianconi.”

Purchased from the 2003 Premier yearling sale for $50,000, Above Deck has now earnt connections shy of $1million in prizemoney from his 10 wins from only 28 career starts.
