Leading Victorian trainer Tony McEvoy had one goal at this year’s Classic Yearling Sale – to buy the winner of next year’s inaugural $2m Inglis Millennium.
At the conclusion of Day 2 McEvoy has snapped up eight Lots, including two of the three top-priced Lots from today – a Zoustar x Special Favour filly from Rosemont Stud ($340,000) and a Deep Field x Uncommon colt off Lucas Bloodstock ($300,000).
The Inglis Millennium, to be run annually at Warwick Farm on the Saturday afternoon prior to the Classic Yearling Sale night session, will headline a bumper $4m Inglis Race Day from 2019.
“Why wouldn’t I be here for that reason? It’s a fantastic initiative and I want to be the inaugural winning trainer,’’ McEvoy said.
“The Zoustar filly, she’s got class, a great head and eye and she’s fiesty, which I love and the Deep Field colt, he had a swagger about him, he looked a real athletic horse.’’

Day 2 of the Classic Yearling Sale was another spectacular success for both vendors and buyers.
At its conclusion the sale’s average sits at $102,657, with a phenomenal clearance rate of 90% and a gross of $30,386,500.
Anthony Mithen of Rosemont Stud was thrilled his Zoustar x Special Favour filly (Lot 130) was so well received by the buying bench present at Riverside Stables.
“To bring a really nice filly to a sale like this, it was great justification in bringing what we thought was an Easter-quality filly and it’s a testament to the sale that you can get Easter money if you bring the right products,’’ Mithen said.
“We’re glad we made the right call and Inglis created the environment and buying bench to support her all the way. Plenty of people told me she was the filly of the sale and we were justly rewarded.’’
Today’s top Lot was an I Am Invincible x Chickasaw colt offered by Yarraman Park, which was knocked down to Sun Stud for $400,000.
It continued a fantastic Classic Sale for Yarraman, which is leading vendor by both aggregate ($1,922,500) and average ($192,250) while their star stallion I Am Invincible is leading sire by both aggregate ($2,505,000) and average for three or more sold ($278,333).
“We’re very happy as vendors with the whole sale,’’ Yarraman’s Harry Mitchell said.
“It’s been going very well. The buyers are here, the market’s good and we’ve got stallions people like which doesn’t hurt either.
“The Chickasaw colt, he’s a lovely horse who we knew would sell well because he’s a great type.’'
