10th Feb 2008

It was a winning Hobart Cup carnival for Inglis graduates highlighted by the dashing Tasmanian Derby (Gr 3) success of Mega Boss, a $70,000 Premier Sale purchase by Peter Morgan. Mega Boss was offered for sale by Rosemont Stud in their inaugural sale draft and the Ceres-based operation are consigning his yearling half brother from the first-crop of French classic winner Shamardal as lot 16 in the Premier Sale in March.

“It’s a great boost for our draft coming into the sale,” said Rosemont principal Anthony Mithen.

Aside from Mega Boss’ half brother, Rosemont Stud will offer one of the star’s of the sale, lot 425 by Encosta de Lago from multiple Group winning racemare Dandify, a standout in any sale in Australasia.

“There was under a bit of pressure to sell him at Easter, but I decided to sell all my yearlings in Melbourne,” Mithen added. “Looking at the catalogue it’s a must attend sale, so I’m glad I held firm.”

Mega Boss’ win was yet another stakes success for three-year-old graduates of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, following on from the win of Turffontein on Saturday at Caulfield in the Wellington Racing Club Stakes (Listed) and Playwright’s impressive victory in the C. S. Hayes Stakes (Gr 3) at Flemington the week earlier, when he led home a trifecta of Premier graduates.

The Premier Sale commences on March 2 at Oaklands Junction.
