Melbourne March Thoroughbred Sale Extended To Two-Days

21st Feb 2006

Due to the large number of entries received for the 2006 Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale, the auction has been extended to two-days.

The 360 lot mixed sale will now take place at Oaklands on Thursday, March 23 and Friday March 24, with the first day featuring broodmares and stallions, followed by a session of racehorses, race fillies, yearlings, unbroken stock and weanlings on Friday.

Leading owner-breeders Woodlands Stud will again offer a quality draft as part of their annual stock reduction and buyers can be sure there are plenty of well-bred mares among their 24 strong consignment.

The Written Bloodstock Syndicate dispersal also continues at the March sale. Among those offered by the defunct syndicate’s receivers is the stakes-placed Volksraad mare Volkiss (NZ), in foal to the Grade 1 winning Nureyev sire Good Journey.

Dorrington Farm will send up the stakes winning gelding Amtrak, winner of the MRC Sandown Stakes and the Melbourne Racing Stakes, both Group 3s, while for those looking for a stallion prospect there is the impeccably bred French stakes winner Esperero.

By the Mr Prospector stallion Forty Niner the horse is very closely related to the much lamented Darley sire Machiavellian. Esperero’s dam is the Niarchos family’s French Guineas runner-up Hydro Calido, by Nureyev, a half-sister to Machiavellian out of the outstanding producer Coup De Folie who is also responsible for the Group 1 winners Coup De Genie and Exit To Nowhere.

Among the coverings of 176 broodmares scheduled through the ring on the opening day are stallions such as Bel Esprit, Choisir,Desert King, Elvstroem, Good Journey, Rubiton, Secret Savings, Strategic, Tale Of The Cat, Testa Rossa etc.

The March Thoroughbred catalogue can be viewed online at www.inglis.com.au from Friday, March 3 and will be distributed the following week.
