Missy Cummings takes unbeaten record to Scone Guineas

TVN - Adrian Dunn - Saturday, 27 April 2013

MISSY Cummings will take her unbeaten record into next month’s Inglis Guineas at Scone after her victory in today’s James H B Carr Stakes at Randwick.

Trainer Anthony Cummings said he would consider taking Missy Cummings, named after one of the first American female fighter pilots, to the Brisbane carnival after Scone.

He noted that this daughter of Magnus from a Seheed mare would stretch out to 2000 metres, but was full of admiration that the filly could rebound after a nine day break from winning a Class 1 race at Wyong.

“She was a bit feisty and hot before the race and part of that because she’s had a couple of 10 day back-ups,” Cummings said.

“Ideally, you don’t want to do that but with the carnival here, we’ve had to structure it that way.

“Lucky enough we have a horse that can deal with it.”

Missy Cummings, specked from $26 to $21, scored by one and a quarter lengths from catkins, $4.60, with a half length to Medusa’s Miss, $21, third,

Driefontein, heavily backed from $4.60 to $3.70 favourite, failed to flatter at the business end after having a nice run in transit.

Peter Robl described Missy Cummings, who has progressed from provincial meetings to a Stakes Race, as a “little beaut”.

He said the filly’s barrier one draw proved beneficial as he was able to smother her three back along the fence and then present her at the entrance to the straight.

“She showed what she could do,” Robl said.
