Moody grabs the century at Flemington

Racenet - Brad Waters - Saturday, 23 July 2011

Premier trainer Peter Moody became only the third horseman to train 100 winners in a Melbourne racing season when Testascana completed a double for the stable at Saturday's Flemington meeting.

Moody joined Hall of Famers, David Hayes and Lee Freedman as the only trainers to crack the ton when Testascana claimed the Hanan Displays Handicap (1600m) in convincing style.

Moody started the day on 98-1/2 wins before the Caulfield trainer won the Australian Lamb Company Handicap (1700m) with the game three-year-old Sidecar ($9.50) to draw within half a win of his century.

The former Queenslander cut a proud figure in the mounting yard after the race before paying homage to his staff and owners for their contribution to his success.

"I am extremely proud to be mentioned in the same breath as D A Hayes and D Freedman, it is beyond my wildest dreams,” Moody said.

"It's very fulfilling and very gratifying and it has been a wonderful year.

"I have had wonderful support from my terrific staff. The jockeys have supported me well.

"My business is about return to owners. If I can't put horses in races where they can win, I try and put them in races where they can run third, fourth or fifth and put something back in the owner's pockets.

"This business is about return investment. It's like the mechanic for your car - if he does a good job, you go back.”

Moody took just 488 runners to record his century at a strike rate of better than 20 percent.

In just over a week's time Moody will be confirmed as Melbourne's champion trainer for the second season running.
