Moore Unveils A New Star In Macau

Racing And Sports - Harry Troy in Macau - Monday, 20 June 2011

Four times champion trainer Gary Moore produced a star in the making at Friday night's sand meeting when debut two year old Trust Me Bet lived right up to his wraps with a dominant win over 1300 metres.

Ridden by Louis Corrales, Trust Me Bet was never off the bridle from the outset and simply toyed with his older rivals to win by four and a half lengths from Thinkin Happy (Peter Ho), with Best Pioneer (Gaetan Faucon) a length back in third.

“This is some racehorse.” Louis Corrales remarked after the win.

“I never even let him off the bridle, he did everything on his own and for me he's still learning.”

“He's as good as I've ever been on”

Trust Me Bet is by the outstanding USA racehorse Kitten's Joy, who from 14 starts won nine races and placed second on three more occasions.

Kitten's Joy was voted the Eclipse Champion Male Turf Horse in 2004, and boasts among his victories the Virginia Derby, the Secretariat Stakes and the Firecracker Breeders Cup.

Gary Moore was not on hand to witness the gelding's impressive debut as he was overseas in the U K buying horses, and taking in the glamour of Royal Ascot, but the trainer was not the least surprised by the ease of the win.

“He's had Class 1 stamped all over him from day one.” Moore said

“After his first serious piece of work Stanley Chin who is a very conservative judge said to me, “Gaz this is the real deal.”

“I haven't had a horse show me this much early on since the days of Elegance Champion.”

Elegance Champion was a sand superstar who won 13 races and placed a further 15 times for Moore in the enclave from only 43 starts.

Moore purchased Trust Me Bet (pictured as yearling) at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney on the advice of his Australian bloodstock agent John Hutchinson.

“John recommended him as he liked the look of him and he was from an excellent family, and he thought that there may not be a lot of interest in him being by a little known sire in Australia.”

“I liked him right off and we picked him up for $40,000 (AUD).” Moore added.

“He's only a two year old so I will run him again on July 8 and then rest him for next season; we might even look at Dubai with him.”

Moore is currently waging an intriguing battle with Patrick Lee for trainer's honours and stretched the margin to a four win break after a treble on the weekend, now leading 48 to 44.

“I'm lucky I've got some nice two year olds to finish the season off with.” Moore added.

“I don't have that numbers that Patrick has, but I've got a lot of nice untapped quality in my yard and I will finish off well.”

Moore's other winners were Elegance Energy in the Class 3 on Friday night, and the former West Australian galloper Time Prince who battled back stoutly to win the Class 3 on the turf on Saturday.

Time Prince won three from 10 in West Australia when racing there as Challis.
