More Black-Type Beckons For Australian-Bred Colt

Breeding and Racing - Wednesday, 19th August 2015

Mike de Kock says that talented Australian-bred colt Mitraad (pictured as a yearling) is likely to take on stakes company again in the near future following his win at Turffontein in South Africa on Saturday.

The son of Northern Meteor, who is already a black-type winner having landed the Listed Secretariat Stakes (1400m) at Turffontein back in December, took his record to 3 wins from 4 starts when scoring a comfortable victory over 1400m at the Johannesburg track on the weekend.

"Mitraad is lightly-raced and he has heart, he likes to fight which is a good trait," De Kock said on his website.

"I'm not sure if he'll stay further than a mile, we'll see how he progresses this season.

If he picks up another race soon we may consider a feature race for him."

From the O'Reilly mare Fondle, Mitraad is a half-brother to Melbourne stakes winner Combat Kitty (General Nediym) and hails from the family of Gr1 winners Danaupair Starlet and Governor's Bay.

Mitraad was a $210,000 purchase by Shadwell Australia at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Attunga Stud.
