Mosheen back with a bang at Caulfield

Group One VRC Oaks winner Mosheen was back with a bang at Caulfield today, running away to a dominant first-up victory in the Listed MRC Shadwell Stud Australasia Stakes over 1200m.

50% of Mosheen ($250,000 2010 Easter, 3f Fastnet Rock-Sumehra) was sold to Katsumi Yoshida of Japan’s Northern Farm for a reported seven figure sum earlier in the week and the daughter of Fastnet Rock didn’t fail to let the new part-owner down showing her customary turn of foot to defeat That’s The One by just under two lengths with fellow Easter graduate Highly Recommended back in third.

Trainer Robert Smerdon has plenty of options with Mosheen heading into the Autumn, with the star filly proven at the highest level from 1200m to 2500m having placed in the Golden Slipper and won the VRC Oaks.

Mosheen was picked out of the Australia Easter Yearling Sale for $250,000 from draft of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds who will offer her half-brother by Zabeel as Lot 413 at this year’s Easter Sale on April 10 to 12.

Easter sale graduate Fastnet Rock has been red hot this season all across Asia and Inglis will offer 78 yearlings by the son of Danehill in the coming months; 28 at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and 50 at Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

More Easter stakes winners

Earlier in the day Armed For Action and Bangalore Bullet joined the long list of stakes winners purchased for less than $100,000 from the Australian Easter Yearling Sale when winning Listed races at Morphettville and Wingatui respectively.

Armed for Action ($90,000 2011 Easter, 2f Exceed And Excel-Brave And Bold) was sent out a short priced favourite in the Listed SAJC Queen Adelaide Stakes for two-year-olds at Morphettville on the back of a debut win at Mornington. The Anthony Freedman trained filly did not disappoint leading all the way to a three length victory.

The daughter of Easter graduate Exceed And Excel was purchased at last year’s April showcase sale by Freedman Brothers for $90,000 from the draft of Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds who will offer her three-quarter-sister by Redoute’s Choice as Lot 80 at the 2012 Easter Sale.

Redoute’s Choice will also be represented at this year’s Easter Sale with a yearling half-sister to Black Caviar as Lot 200 and a full-brother to Mama’s Choice, winner of today’s Listed MRC Emirates Airline Stakes for two-year-olds, as Lot 356

Bangalore Bullet ($50,000 2010 Easter, 3c Hussonet-San Century) was selected by Michael Wallace Bloodstock for just $50,000 from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm at Easter in 2010 and the son of Hussonet is now the winner of back-to-back Listed races in New Zealand adding today’s Dunedin Guineas to last month’s Gore Guineas victory.

Top class gallopers that could have been picked up from Easter for less than $100,000 include Group One winners Response and Faint Perfume plus Australian stakes winners this season Golden Archer, Specter, Strike The Stars, Darci Be Good,Neeson and Monton.

The catalogue for the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, featuring 579 lots, was released online this week and is available at www.inglis.com.au
