Mosheen makes every post a winner

Mosheen notched up her fourth Group One win on Saturday, continuing Inglis graduates’ domination of the three-year-old classics, leading from start to finish in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill.

The $250,000 Inglis Easter graduate was sent to the front by jockey Danny Nikolic, who let the filly slide before the turn setting up a four length break on the chasing Streama, which although got to within a length on the line never looked likely to deny Mosheen her fourth victory at the highest level following VRC Oaks-Australian Guineas-Randwick Guineas wins this season.

“She was the best filly in the race, relaxed lovely then inside the 550[metres] I started to build it up. She got a bit lost in the straight,” Nikolic said.

Today’s win was the 62nd Group One victory for an Inglis graduate in an Australian three-year-old event in the last ten years, and the fourth Vinery Stud Stakes in the last seven runnings following the recent wins of Easter graduates Serenade Rose, Miss Finland and Faint Perfume.

27% of the Australian Group One races for three-year-olds in the last ten years that were won by a horse offered at auction have been won by an Easter graduate, a fantastic result for a sale that makes up just 8% of the Australasian yearling sale crop and 3% of the total foal crop.

Bred by Bylong Park Thoroughbreds Mosheen ($250,000 2010 Easter, 3f Fastnet Rock-Sumehra) was purchased by Troy Corstens and John Sadler as a yearling for owner Phil Sly, who now races the gallant filly with leading Japanese owner and breeder Katsumi Yoshida.

Mosheen is now well on her way to being crowned Australian Champion Three-year-old Filly for 2011/12, following in the footsteps of fellow Easter champion fillies Samantha Miss, Faint Perfume, Miss Finland and Serenade Rose.

Trainer Robert Smerdon will see how the mighty performer pulls up before deciding her next start, but Nikolic was pretty bullish after the race.

“I’ll be suggesting if she eats up we’ll to go to the Derby or the Oaks,” Nikolic added.

Mosheen has had 14 starts for seven wins and five placings, with today’s victory taking her career earnings past $2.6million.

50 yearlings by Mosheen’s red hot sire Fastnet Rock are set to be offered at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling that gets underway at 11am this coming Tuesday April 10.

579 lots have been catalogued to go under the hammer over the three days of next week’s sale, including Mosheen’s yearling half-brother by Zabeel that will be offered by Bylong Park Thoroughbreds as Lot 413.
