Nine out of Ten Makes a Stable Investment

Inglis graduates continue to lead the way in feature juvenile races and with the Golden Slipper on Saturday and Easter Sale beginning Sunday, it’s timely to remind buyers of the recent dominance of Inglis two-year-olds.

Notably, nine out of the last 10 Australian two-year-old Group 1 winners to be sold at auction were sold by Inglis – including eight of them at Easter.

The winners are:

Mentality (2005 Easter $100,000); Miss Finland (2005 Easter $450,000); Nadeem 2005 Easter $700,000); Apercu (2006 Easter $470,000); Forensics (2006 Easter $900,000); Camarilla (2006 Easter $900,000); Samantha Miss (2007 Easter $1,500,000); Reaan (2007 Easter $375,000); Reward For Effort (2008 Premier $190,000)

The most recent Inglis Group 1 winning 2YO graduate is Blue Diamond hero Reward For Effort, a $190,000 Melbourne Premier purchase who goes into Saturday’s $3.5M G1 Golden Slipper as one of the top four chances.

The Peter Moody trained colt is one of eight Inglis graduates in the final field for the Slipper – twice the number of any other sales company.

Rostova ($80,000 Premier), the female star of Melbourne racing this season and coming off a cavalier win in the G2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes, is also among the top four picks.

The other Inglis graduates in Saturday’s feature are Delago Bolt ($50,000 Premier), Wanted ($800,000 Easter), Indian Ocean ($150,000 Easter), Headway ($175,000 Easter), Our Joan Of Arc ($15,000 Classic) and Stryker ($600,000 Easter).

The octet will aim to give Inglis three wins in the past four years in the Golden Slipper, following the 2006 and 2007 wins by Miss Finland and Forensics.

The performance of Inglis juveniles mirrors what has happened in the Classic races, with Whobegotyou (Caulfield Guineas), Tell A Tale (New Zealand 2000 Guineas), Le Drakkar (South Africa Cape Guineas) and Metal Bender (Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas) winning at the highest level this season.

Metal Bender’s recent rise to prominence has also highlighted another oft-overlooked fact: you don’t need to spend a fortune to find a jewel at Easter.

A $160,000 graduate, Metal Bender joins an elite list of recent Group 1 winning Easter graduates to have been purchased for $200,000 or less.

Others include Mentality ($100,000), Newport ($150,000), Maldivian ($195,000), Bon Hoffa ($80,000), Dealer Principal ($150,000), Racing To Win ($40,000), Bentley Biscuit ($120,000), Teranaba ($100,000), Grand Armee ($150,000), Reset ($190,000), Thorn Park ($200,000), Helenus $80,000) and Elegant Fashion ($95,000).

This collection of horses, added to others like Sousa, Forensics, Samantha Miss and All Silent continue to make the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale the number one source of Group 1 winners in the southern hemisphere.

The Easter story continues this weekend at Newmarket, with a star-studded 600 Lot catalogue.

To ensure you don’t miss your chance to secure the next generation of Easter stars, selling begins from 1pm Sunday and runs through Monday and Tuesday.

Inspections are currently being made at Newmarket, but Sirecam videos of each yearling are online for inspection. Online bidding and Make an Offer are also available for those unable to attend the sale.

The sale will be televised live on TVN and on Inglis Sale Day Live, which includes up to the minute statistics.
