The next bonus race in the $2.5million Inglis Race series will be run at Rosehill Gardens next Saturday, February 7, with an additional $100,000 on offer for paid up graduates.
The race is a 1200m Open Handicap for 2YO’s, with $70,000 prizemoney and a $20,000 BOBS bonus, meaning eligible Inglis graduates could be racing for a potential $160,000 plus first prize.
Nominations for this event close Monday morning.
Leading trainer Gary Portelli, fresh from a stakes success with Gold Trail at Canterbury last night, has the race pencilled in for the promising Delago Bolt (Delago Brom-Bardego), a $50,000 Premier graduate who made an eye-catching debut at Rosehill earlier this month.
“I could have run him this weekend for the normal prizemoney, but decided to wait until next week,” Portelli said.
“The $100,000 bonus is a great lure and it’s a perfect lead-up for the Black Opal. We think he’s a Golden Slipper prospect and hopefully he will come out next week and show that.”
Portelli also intends to nominate Romanus, an Encosta De Lago colt from the VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese that was secured by Vin Cox from last year’s Easter Sale for $500,000.
“I think this race series is a fantastic initiative by Inglis and even though they unfortunately don’t count in getting horses into races, they will certainly help pay the bills.”
This is the third bonus in a series comprising 15 races, with the next scheduled race being at Mornington on February 18, where a $50,000 bonus is available.
The Inglis Race Series also includes races restricted to Inglis graduates only, with the Liam Birchley trained Fear No Other taking out last Monday’s $250,000 Inglis Classic at Randwick, having made the trip from Queensland.
Earlier in the season, the Leon Corstens trained Starspangledbanner landed the $250,000 Inglis Juvenile at Moonee Valley.
Melbourne Premier graduates will race for $250,000 in the Inglis Premier at Caulfield on February 28. The field looks set to include Rostova, Reward For Effort, Exceedingly French and Starspangledbanner. The current Order of Entry for the Inglis Premier can be found HERE.
