Oaks winner claims Roses in Brisbane

Newhaven Park Stud owned filly Invest built on her last start Group 1 SAJC Schweppes Oaks win in Brisbane today, adding the Group 3 BRC Doomben Roses (2000m) to her blossoming resume.

Trainer Clarry Conners has the three-year-old filly (pictured as yearling) in fine form heading towards the Queensland Oaks, driving powerfully to the finish over today’s 2000m journey to defeat New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Artistic and last start Gold Coast Bracelet winner Scorpio Queen.

“It was a courageous win and she’s blooming up here [in Brisbane], that race will top her right off,” Conners said after the race.

“We’ve always thought she stay, she’s had a tendency to pull early in her career so I took the blinkers off her today. She’ll bloom now, she’ll bloom,” Conners added.

Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds Invest ($450,000 2010 Easter, 3f Dehere-Unearthly) was purchased from the draft of Coolmore Stud by Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland on behalf of Newhaven Park Stud at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

From Group 1 winner Unearthly the Group 1 winning filly’s record now stands at three wins and five placings from 14 starts, with $440,000 in prizemoney.

The 2012 Group 1 BRC Queensland Oaks, which Invest will have her next start, is run over 2400m at Eagle Farm on 2nd of the June.
