He cost $600,000, so you’d like to think he could run.
He is talented Encosta de Lago two year-old colt Costly Commitment, who made a winning debut for the Mick Price stable at Geelong on Friday beating older horses.
Costly Commitment was sent out favourite for the 1100 metre maiden despite his lack of experience and although drifting back to near last on the turn, he charged home out wide for Craig Newitt to score an eye catching neck win.
Costly Commitment (pictured as a yearling) runs in the familiar gold colours of South Australian winemaker Wolf Blass and was purchased by Hancock Quality Bloodstock for $600,000 from the Makybe draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Bloodstock agent Adrian Hancock must have had an inkling Costly Commitment would be more than useful as he also purchased his half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) from the same sale this year for $300,000.
Costly Commitment is the second foal and second winner for stakes-winning Octagonal mare Mutate, her fist being stakes-placed My Amici.
Mutate has a weanling colt by Street Hero (USA) and was covered last spring by High Chaparral (IRE).
