There are many paths to the spring classics for a three year-old and this talented gelding by champion New Zealand sire O'Reilly chose a low key option at Seymour on a Sunday to kick start his career, but we're expecting to see a lot more from him.
Prepared by Mike Moroney, Marwood was sent off favourite for the 1200 metre maiden and made it a one act affair in skipping over the heavy ground to win by nearly five lengths for Nicholas Hall.
A flashy brown with four white feet and a prominent blaze, Marwood jumped smartly and was always up on the pace before leaving his rivals lamenting.
A $210,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Trelawney Stud for Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Marwood is entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas.
He is a half-brother to Group III winner Martini Red and is the third winner for former classy Centaine mare Pernod, who was also trained by Mike Moroney and won the Group I MRC Invitation Stakes.
The O'Reilly x Centaine nick is an impressive one that produces 68% winners to runners, 17 of them stakes-winners and four of those Group I winners, with Marwood likely to add further lustre to the list.
