ONLINE BIDDING PROVES A SUCCESS AT INGLIS AUTUMN SALE

16th Mar 2008

In addition to the good crowd assembled for Monday’s Autumn Thoroughbred Sale at Newmarket were 27 registered and credit approved online bidders from all over Australia. Of the 178 lots sold no less than 16 were subject to internet bids from buyers in Queensland, Northern NSW, Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria. The top priced horse to sell online was lot 108, a good racemare named Matilda Princess. She was purchased by Andrew Hayes in Grafton for $11,000. In total 8 lots were purchased by online bidders including Malcolm Couslon in Victoria who scored 4 lots and John Kendall in Queensland who purchased 3 lots.

The one day sale aggregate was $1.08m, up 12% on last year. The average was $6,066, up 34% on last year with a strong clearance rate of 90%.

The top-price was $160,000 paid for lot 38, the Irish-bred mare TATHAM (Ire). A daughter of Epsom Derby winner and successful broodmare sire Kahyasi, Tatham is an attractive package. The dam of three winners already including the Group Three national Stakes winner General’s Dynasty and the Listed-placed Fastness, Tatham sold with a colt at foot by Shamardal (USA) and in foal to Exceed And Excel.

Consigned by Rothwell Park Thoroughbreds as agent, Tatham was knocked down to Emerald Thoroughbreds, who had earlier been active as vendors selling several lots.

Vin Cox was active throughout the sale and he signed for COUPOLETTE, a five-time winner of over $140,000, including two in Sydney. The six-year-old daughter of Metal Storm (Fr) was offered as a racing and breeding prospect.

William Inglis & Son Managing Director Mark Webster declared himself pleased with the sale results. “Today has been good trade for a typical Autumn Thoroughbred Sale and there was good competition at all levels. The degree of interest in, and successful introduction of the online bidding service is something that we are very happy with.

“We are the first thoroughbred auction house outside the USA to introduce this service. I’m passionate about using technology to assist our clients to sell and buy horses and I’m delighted that the first sale to use this new technology has gone so smoothly. Online bidding will be available for all Inglis bloodstock sales in NSW and Victoria in the future. Anyone interested should register now so they are prepared for upcoming sales.”

The next sale is the Australian Easter Yearling sale that commences at Newmarket on April 20. This sale will showcase 1230 yearlings in three graded sessions including the rescheduled Classic Yearling Sale, with a yearling for every buyer and every budget. Catalogues are available from the Sydney or Melbourne office and all details can be seen online at www.inglis.com.au
