Racing Victoria - Press Release - Thursday, 5 February 2009
This weekend’s Group 1 Sportingbet Orr Stakes meeting at Caulfield, which was to be held on Saturday, will now be conducted on Sunday due to concerns over the forecast high temperatures. Racing Victoria Limited, in conjunction with the Melbourne Racing Club and other key stakeholders including the ATA, AJA and TROA, reached the decision after on-going monitoring of the forecast with the Bureau of Meteorology.
“The forecast is for temperatures to get as high as 44 degrees on Saturday so in the best interests and welfare of all horses, jockeys and industry participants the decision was taken to move the meeting to Sunday,” said RVL Chief Executive Rob Hines.
The Bureau has indicated the temperature is expected to reach the high 30’s by lunch time on Saturday before peaking in the mid-40s during the afternoon. A cool change is expected around 7.00pm on Saturday evening.
The first race at Caulfield on Sunday will be run at 12.45pm and the day’s feature race, the C.F. Orr Stakes, will be run at 4.18pm.
The provincial meeting set down for Bendigo on Saturday has also been moved to Sunday, with 44 degrees forecast on Saturday. The first race will be run at 11.30am.
Sunday’s third meeting is the Cup meeting at Colac.
The Sale meeting, featuring the $80,000 Sale Quality, which was scheduled for Sunday will now be held on Monday. Swan Hill will also race on Monday as originally scheduled.
