Outstanding Results At Melbourne Premier

The 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale concluded on Wednesday with increased average, median and clearance rate flowing through into Session Two.

“The overall results exceeded our expectations and gave those vendors who offered well presented, well conformed yearlings a very good return. We appreciate the support we received from those vendors who sold with us and our buyers who were competitive right throughout the sale,” said Peter Heagney, Inglis’ Melbourne Bloodstock Director.

“I believe our results show the continued improvement in quality of the Premier Sale is now being given its due recognition. It was a great team effort to achieve these results and we can now look forward to the Easter and VOBIS Gold Yearling Sales,” adds Heagney.

108 lots were sold for $3,337,000 during Session Two. The average and median of $30,898 and $25,000 were up 11% and 14% up respectively on last year. Today’s clearance rate of 77% is also an improvement on 2013.

Local trainers active on Wednesday included Greg Eurell, Henry Dwyer, Dean Binaisse, David Hayes, Darren Weir and Pat Carey. But they had plenty of interstate and overseas competition with Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand, South Africa all getting onto the buyers sheet.

Phoenix Broodmare Farm’s outstanding week continues into Session Two, with Damain Gleeson’s operation selling the equal-top price for Wednesday to add to the overall sale topper sold on Day One.

Canberra trainer Keith Dryden snapped up Lot 690 from Phoenix’s draft for $110,000. The colt by Myboycharlie from Lady of Love is a brother to RL Inglis Classic winner Peggy Jean. Phoenix were also the vendors of the Northern Meteor colt from Conquistar that topped the whole sale when selling as Lot 122 for $450,000.

The other lot to make $110,000 on Day Four was Lot 701, a colt by Von Costa de Hero from Luna Ballerina which was sold by Salamander Park to Randwick Bloodstock.
