The 2012 Inglis Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale concluded on Friday at Oaklands, where strong bidding from the wide range of buyers assembled led to a 55% increase in gross sales.
196 lots were sold at an outstanding clearance rate of 96% on Friday, with gross receipts of $1,937,950 taking the sale’s overall aggregate to $2,914,200, up from $1,878,600 recorded last year.
The Wadham Park unreserved dispersal proved extremely popular with buyers, with Ravenous Lass and Swoosh recording the equal highest price on day two when each sold for $100,000 to J Leek and Danny O’Brien Racing respectively.
The annual Darley reduction conducted at the August Thoroughbred Sale was also well patronised with Henshaw proving the highlight when selling to M Ruff for $60,000.
“A very satisfying two days for us and our vendors with an increase in gross of over $540,000 on Friday compared with the same day last year and an overall clearance rate of 90% for the entire sale,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney
“This sale has consistently proven to be a good source of mares and fillies for stud masters coming in the season and demand for racehorses at this time of year has continued to be strong, confirming confidence in our industry and the lucrative prizemoney on offer,” Heagney added.
Many new names featured amongst the 178 individual purchasers that made their way onto the buyers list for the completed two day sale, with clients travelling from all states of Australia, plus New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines to compete on the stock offered.
Buyers unable to attend the Melbourne Sale also made their presence felt through Inglis’ Online Bidding facility, with 140 individuals participating via the service on Thursday and Friday.
All breeding and racing stock that passed in at the sale are available for sale via the Inglis Make An Offer service.
