Owners hope to be rewarded for effort

Racenet - Clinton Payne - Wednesday, 1 April 2009

The for sale sign is up on Golden Slipper hopeful Reward For Effort but no business will be done until after Saturday.

Reward For Effort’s lucky owners are in the enviable position of their colt being a Group One winner after he lowered the colours of Golden Slipper favourite Real Saga in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

“There has been genuine interest from two Hunter Valley studs,” said syndicate manager Dean Watt from Dynamic Syndications.

“Prices have not been discussed because there is no point discussing them, as the horse is not on the market until after the Golden Slipper.

“He’s already a Group One winner, he’s already the Blue Diamond winner, that’s on the mantle piece.

“The difference between selling him today and selling him after Saturday could be a couple of zeros.”

After drawing gate 3 at yesterday’s Martin Place barrier draw, the punters have come for the Peter Moody-trained colt.

TAB Sportsbet have tightened Reward For Effort’s price from $11 into $10 after constant support started to flow in yesterday afternoon.

“The colt was backed to win over $150,000 yesterday afternoon,” TAB Sportsbet’s Glenn Munsie said.

“Bets of $5,000, $4,000 and $3,000 @ $11 were taken as well as $2,000 place only @ $3.28.”

Reward for Effort yesterday turned in a strong gallop at Randwick working along side the John O’Shea-trained Wanted.

The pair were timed to run their last 800m in 51.8s with the best part of their work coming over the last 200m.

They ran their last furlong in 11s, the best of seven Golden Slipper horses which worked at Randwick.
