Pane In The Glass Breaks Through

Breednet - Mark Smith - Saturday, 20 August 2011

Patinack Farm's super consistent Testa Rossa filly Pane In The Glass earned a well-deserved first stakes success in a thrilling four horse war in Saturday's Group 3 Panucci Silver Shadow Stakes.

Making her seasonal debut, Pane In The Glass came down the middle of the track under Craig Williams to nail Florentina (Redoute's Choice), Streama (Stratum) and Al's Magic Miss (Magic Albert).

Winner of her first three starts last season, the John Thompson-trained filly placed in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes (G1), Champagne Stakes (G1), Magic Night stakes (G2) and Sweet Embrace Stakes (G3).

"She went to a spell probably the best two-year-old filly of the season but she wasn't a stakes winner," trainer John Thompson said.

"It's good to get that one under the belt."

"I was a bit worried coming back here, she didn't go that well last time she raced here," he said.

"I thought if she was ever going to be beaten it was today, bring on the Princess series."

Her first stakes success took her earnings to $625,500.

That's not a bad return on the $32,000 Nathan Tinkler parted with to secure the Testa Rossa filly from the veteran horsewomen Anne Raymond's Sledmere Stud.

Pane In The Glass is the seventh foal of the Bluebird mare Lyrics, herself a Warwick Farm winner and a half-sister to gifted sprinter Gold Brose (Huttingdale) who won 5 of his 8 starts including the Silver Slipper (G2) at his first start and the Linlithgow Stakes at Flemington by 5 ½ lengths at his last start.

While his race career was cut short by injury, Gold Brose tragically died at stud in New Zealand at a time when his star was shining brightly. Among his many stakes winners were multiple Group 1 winners Buzz Lightyear and Grout.

The eighth living foal of Lyrics, an Excellent Art (GB) 2yo filly named Oh Ay Bee, was sold by Sledmere for $47,500 at the Inglis Classic Yearling sale.

Not served in 2009, Lyrics was covered by Duporth last year.

Pane In The Glass becomes the 35th stakes-winner for Vinery Stud's ever reliable stallion Testa Rossa.

The six-time Group 1 winner kick-started the day at Warwick Farm with the Joe Pride-trained Sienna Red earning her second consecutive victory in a benchmark 80 handicap over 16000 metres.
