Patinack has a lot on its plate for new season

Sydney Morning Herald - John Schell - Monday, 3 August 2009

A BOLD plan to make Champagne Stakes winner Onemorenomore a live chance of becoming a Cox Plate contender will begin at Rosehill tomorrow.

The Group 1 winner will trial before owner Patinack Farm targets the $1 million group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill on August 29 for the colt.

"The Golden Rose is the race that looks like it will suit Onemorenomore best," Patinack’s racing manager, Mark Webbey, said of Onemorenomore’s projected resuming run this campaign.

"He is one of our two individual group 1 winners from last season, and he is ready to step up to the next level."

Webbey is joined by Patinack’s general manager, Rick Connolly, when it comes to setting the racing programs of Patinack horses.

"The fact that we have had two individual Group 1 winners this season in Onemorenomore and Linky Dink has been a great result for the stable," Webbey said.

"And to have around 15 individual two-year-old winners during a season has also been something to be proud of."

Webbey said he expected Onemorenomore (pictured) to develop into a Cox Plate chance this season following a crack at another Group 1 in the Golden Rose.

"The Caulfield Guineas would seem to be the logical target for him after the Golden Rose, and then we would look at running him in the Cox Plate," Webbey said. "The Cox Plate is the dream for anyone, and Onemorenomore is a horse we think can make it to that level."

Webbey said that while big-race success was high on the list of connections for this weekend’s action, the long term was also on the agenda of Patinack.

"We have around 114 yearlings [now two-year-olds] on our books," Webbey said. "They are all nominated for the Golden Slipper, and around 70 of them are in the Blue Diamond.

"There is nothing better than having some new blood coming through the ranks."
