Led by Patinack Farm, the top end of the Sydney Classic Sale grew today, with eight $100,000 yearlings lifting the average price to $28,614 - down just 10% on last year’s figures.
Through the first two sessions, 250 yearlings have now been sold for a gross in excess of $7.1million.
Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm have been the leading buyer of the sale through the first two sessions, purchasing 11 yearlings for more than $700,000.
Included among today’s haul was the new sale topper, a General Nediym half-sister to Phelan Ready for $220,000 (pictured).
The filly is from the G3 Adelaide Guineas winner Nancy Eleanor (Blevic) and was offered by Kitchwin Hills.
While Patinack was the leading buyer today, there was excellent competition on the top lots, as evidenced by the fact the eight $100K horses were purchased by seven different buyers.
Newcastle trainer Darren Smith, who found his G2 Golden Rose winner Court Command from this sale, purchased another Commands colt today for $100,000, in addition to a Testa Rossa colt from Dancing Bridges for $110,000.
Freyer Bloodstock secured the day’s second top priced lot, an Al Samer half-sister to handy sprinter Royal Esprit for $135,000 from the draft of Huntworth Stud.
“It is very pleasing to see the average only down 10% from last year’s figures, which underlines the strength of the buying bench for the more sought after horses,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
“But i t was harder going at the bottom end of the market today, which is clearly more evident throughout the marketplace this year more so than ever, given the current economic climate and the sheer volume of yearlings in the marketplace.”
The Classic sale continues tomorrow from 11am, with another 210 yearlings catalogued for the final session.
Buyers are reminded of the Inglis Make an Offer service available on all passed in lots through the ring in the first two sessions.
