Patinack to Chase Inglis Cash

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 9 June 2010

Darley based Dubawi (IRE) is currently the leading second season sire in the UK and Ireland this year and posted his second Australian winner when the Patinack Farm owned colt Inadequate (pictured) scored at Canterbury on Wednesday.

With race favourite Timo’Shanter (Snitzel) caught up in traffic after turning for home it was left to the unheralded John Thompson trained Inadequate to charge home down the middle of the track to win the 1100 metre colts and geldings maiden by more than a length.

A $70,000 purchase for Patinack from the Little Wych draft at the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Inadequate had started twice previously chasing home slick filly Chance Bye in a couple of Inglis incentive races back in the summer.

“He’s always been a quality colt and had to chase a good one last time in Chance Bye,” said John Thompson.

“We thought he may need the run, but there was good pace and Peter Robl rode a beautiful race to get him home.

“There is an Inglis bonus race at Rosehill on Saturday week so he’ll head towards that.”

Bred by John and Fran Ovenstone at Little Wych near Bathurst, Inadequate is the tenth foal and seventh winner for terrific producer Icecapade, whose best progeny is former top class mare Ain’t Seen Nothin’, who won over $600,000 in prizemoney for the Barbra Joseph stable.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Patou, the dam of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, Icecapade was covered last spring by four-time Group One winner Henrythenavigator (USA) in his first season at stud.

Sire of this year’s English 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi, Dubawi (IRE) is also the sire of two stakes-winners from his first Southern Hemisphere crop in Golden Millennium and Cellarmaster (New Zealand), but despite these achievements he is not on the Darley roster for Australia this spring.
