Perfect timing as Inglis 2YOs dominate across states

As the Autumn 2YO features rapidly approach, Inglis Graduates I Am Immortal (I Am Invincible), Catch Me (I Am Invincible) and Dawn Passage (Dawn Approach) all won impressively, including a clean sweep of the Blue Diamond Previews at Caulfield for Inglis Easter graduates.

The Blue Diamond Preview (Colts & Geldings, Listed) went the way of I Am Immortal (I Am Invincible x Meliora) as he led all the way.

I Am Immortal was purchased by Dream Thoroughbreds and Trainer Anthony Freedman at the 2018 Australian Easter Yearling Sale from Yarraman Park Stud for $200,000.

The colt became the fourth 2YO by I Am Invincible sold at the 2018 Inglis Easter Sale to win a stakes race, joining Espaaniyah, Vinicunca and Catch Me.

The 2019 Inglis Easter catalogue was released just three days ago, with 31 yearlings by I Am Invincible set to be offered, including a full brother to Catch Me as lot 396 from the draft of Segenhoe Stud.

Anthony Freedman said I Am Immortal was impressive but will also benefit from the experience.

“He’d shown great speed in his jump outs,” Freedman said.

He also indicated he will take a cautious approach with the colt.

“These 2YOs are very in the moment, you can have them one day and not the next,” he said.

“It depends how he pulls up, but it’s on our mind to press on [to the Blue Diamond].”

Catch Me (I Am Invincible x Captivating Claire), the winner of the Gimcrack Stakes returned with an impressive win in the Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies, Group 3). The striking filly was knocked down to Yulong Investments from the draft of Segenhoe Stud at Inglis Easter.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden was in awe of the fillies’ ability despite a luckless run.

“She had no favours in the run,” he said.

“She pulled through like good horses with ability do.

He also indicated that all was in good order for the filly as she heads towards her grand final, the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“She’ll strip a better filly for the run,” he said.

“It’s a good start to the preparation, but there’s still two runs to go [until the Blue Diamond].

“She’s well above average.”

The past two editions of the Blue Diamond have been won by Inglis Graduates, with Written By in 2018 and Catchy in 2017.

Meanwhile the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Dawn Passage is bound for the inaugural $2,000,000 Inglis Millennium after a good win at Randwick.

After collecting $58,000 for winning, Dawn Passage (Dawn Approach x Raja Lane) will rocket up the order of entry for the 2YO feature and co-trainer Gai Waterhouse was not only taken back by his ability but had said the Millennium would be his next start.

“What an exciting colt, the world is his oyster,” she said.

“He’s now eligible for the Inglis race worth two million dollars.”

Waterhouse also suggested that the Golden Slipper was also on his agenda.

“The slipper isn’t far away either,” she said.

“He’s got a lovely group of owners and is a lovely horse.”

Mill Park Stud sold Dawn Passage at the 2018 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for $150,000, and the studs General Manger Chris Watson couldn’t be more thrilled to see he is already showing his quality.

“He was always a well put together, well conformed colt,” Watson said.

“But his main attribute was always his temperament, he was easy to do everything with.

“He sold up to his looks and probably beyond our expectation.

“It’s exciting to have a good horse off the farm as we approach the sales again.”

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott purchased Dawn Passage in partnership with Blue Sky Bloodstock.

There are three colts by Dawn Approach to be offered at the 2019 Melbourne Premier Yearling sale from 3 March at a newly renovated Oaklands Junction.

If they head to the Inglis Millennium, todays 2YO winners will meet the Chris Waller-trainer Inglis Nursery winner Accession in the $2,000,000 race.

The February 9 race day will also feature the $1,000,000 Inglis Spring for 3YOs. Following the races, the first 120 lots of the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale will be offered that night.

Catalogues are now online for the Classic Yearling Sale, Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and the Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
