Solid metropolitan and provincial presence from Victoria as well as interstate competition from as far away as Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland, was the catalyst for a record opening day’s trade at the William Inglis & Son Autumn Yearling Sale.
A rise in average to $13,042, an increase of 11%, along with an increased number of offerings bolstered turnover to $2.63 million, a massive gain of 68% on last year’s corresponding session. Despite an increased session of 292 yearlings on offer, competition was stronger than ever, evidenced by a marked increase in clearance from last year.
Corowa trainer Richard Freyer took time out from stable star Leica Falcon’s long comeback process to strike twice in the space of ten lots on a pair of colts from the family of champion racehorse Better Loosen Up.
The first of his purchases was lot 117, a strapping bay colt by impeccably credentialed Platinum Scissors who topped the session, selling for $57,500. He is one of only a handful of first crop yearlings sired by the full brother to Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice, with buyers travelling from interstate for him alone.
“I trained his mother and she was a bonny mare and I was going home with him regardless. He has a head and neck like his sire and plenty of similarities to Redoute’s Choice also, right down to the walk.” Freyer said.
The sale concludes with Monday’s session commencing at 11am where151 lots will be offered.
