Premier 2009 Concludes with Clearance still on the Rise

Almost $2million was traded during today’s Session II, as the 2009 Melbourne Premier Sale came to a conclusion, with plenty of business still being done via the Make an Offer service on earlier passed in lots.

Today’s session saw 104 yearlings sold for $1,989,000 at an average of $18,943, which represented a fall of just 12.5% on the corresponding average for Session II last year.

In form stallion Statue Of Liberty, whose son Mic Mac extended his unbeaten run when taking Saturday’s G2 Hobartville Stakes, provided the day’s sale topper, with a filly from the top producing mare Golden Prayer selling for $70,000.

Fillies filled the top three places on today’s list, with daughters of Estambul and Bianconi both selling for $60,000.

“That’s a really good result today and considerably better than anticipated,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“The good quality horses sold very well and the fact it was down only 12.5% is indicative of how strong the market was today. Those vendors who were realistic with their expectations were suitably rewarded.”

Yesterday’s closing clearance rate for Session I had risen to 75% by this afternoon, with that figure likely to improve further over the next few days.

After an initial opening day clearance rate of less than 66%, each session has improved dramatically post sale, as vendors adjusted to the changed market conditions.

The overall sale aggregate for the past four days is up over $25million.

“I would have to assess the overall sale as a very satisfactory result in these trying financial times,” Heagney said.

“We had an excellent buying bench assembled here at Oaklands throughout the sale, but after vendors had enjoyed unprecedented growth in recent times, the market has now turned around to be in the buyers’ favour.”
