Pride of Jenni stuns with magnificent return victory

Extraordinary mare Pride of Jenni (Pride of Dubai) returned as a 9YO at Caulfield today, winning her third consecutive G2 Feehan Stakes in effortless fashion.

At career start No.49, Pride of Jenni made it victory No.14, showing her customary front-running antics that has led to her becoming one of the most popular horses of the modern era.

Trained by Ciaron Maher, Pride of Jenni (pictured) is a $100,000 Classic Yearling Sale purchase for Tony and Lynn Ottobre of Cape Schanck Stud.

She is bred by Trelawney Stud and the Taylor Family Trust and has now won $12.8m in prizemoney.

“She’s just incredible. The public love her, there’s a good reason why and that’s what you saw today,’’ Tony Ottobre said.

“She’s an absolutely phenomenal horse, she keeps on improving, she’s very happy with us, she’s very happy with Ciaron and she’s just enjoying life. She’s showing us that with her galloping.

“For a trainer to be able to do this with a 9YO mare, you’ve got to give Ciaron accolades, he’s done a fantastic job, I don’t think anybody could beat what Ciaron Maher has done with this horse.’’

Winning trainer Maher added: “She’s just phenomenal, she’s such a great mare.

“To have her back at this age and arguably in as good a form as ever, it is quite remarkable.’’

Later on the Caulfield card today Regal Zeus (Zoustar) showed a devastating turn of speed to lead all the way in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes.

The John McArdle-trained Regal Zeus has been a prolific winner for his connections – today’s victory was his 12th overall from 39 starts and took his earnings to $1.1m.

McArdle teamed up with Regal Bloodstock and Blue Grass to buy Regal Zeus for $150,000 at the Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by his breeder Edinburgh Park.

“He loves Caulfield, he got to the lead and he’s hard to run down when he does that,’’ McArdle said.

“[Jockey] Jamie [Mott] knows the horse so well, he got him out in front and showed them he wanted to lead, then he got a little breather for a couple of furlongs before he got going before the home turn and broke their hearts.’’

Meanwhile at Rosehill yesterday exciting Easter filly Blue Door (Stay Inside) entered the conversation for the $20m G1 The Everest following a comprehensive all-the-way win in the G3 Heritage Stakes.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Blue Door is a $400,000 Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with Kestrel Thoroughbreds’ Bruce Slade, from the draft of Yarraman Park.

She is bred by Craig Bernick’s Armitage Australia and her career record now sits at 4:2.2.0.

Blue Door races in the famous colours of advertising titan John Singleton.

“She was very impressive. She’s bloody fast,’’ David Norris, CEO of the John Singleton Group, said.

“The Everest was discussed before this race, John would love to run her in it but we wanted to see what she did today and she couldn’t have been more impressive really. She was running away with it in the end.

“People are saying everyone is running for 2nd behind Ka Ying Rising in The Everest but I think if [Blue Door] got to the front, she might be hard to catch.’’

Blue Door defeated Ciaron’s Star yesterday in an Inglis graduates quinella.

At Toowoomba last night the Inglis Digital graduate Let’sfacethemusic (I Am Invincible) proved too strong in the Listed Weetwood Handicap.

It was a first Stakes success for the Corey and Kylie Geran-trained 5YO.

Daniel Rae bought Let’sfacethemusic in this year’s Inglis Digital January Online Sale for $47,500 – since then, he has raced nine times for five victories and earned $266,200 in prizemoney.

And at Sha Tin this evening the Hong Kong Derby winner Invincible Ibis (Hellbent) showed he was in for a big spring and summer campaign with a barnstorming first-up victory in the G3 Celebration Cup.

The Mark Newnham-trained 5YO is now a six-time winner from 12 starts and will likely target HKIR at Sha Tin in December as his primary campaign goal.
