Proven Performers Drive Demand At August Thoroughbred Sale

The much anticipated Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale kicked off at 10.30am this morning following the First Season Sire Parade, in which five of Victoria’s leading stud farms paraded eight of the newest additions to their stallion rosters. 205 Lots were sold today at an outstanding clearance rate of 92% and an aggregate earn of $2,440,700 for a variety of vendors.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the day. A large crowd enjoyed the presentation of the First Season Sires and the positive atmosphere carried over to the sale. Significant increases in aggregate and average from the 2014 sale were very satisfying and the exceptional clearance rate is evidence that buyers really appreciated the quality of product on offer,” said Inglis’ Victorian Manager Simon Vivian.

Yu Long Investments Australia Pty Ltd shot to the lead of the buyers’ table after they outlaid $602,900 on 11 Lots, including the three top-priced Lots. Chris Waller’s talented Group 3 winner Mamwaazel (Lot 118) was purchased by the Chinese interests for $200,000 and will head to the stable of Mick Price. The five-year-old has won four and placed in 11 of her 30 starts.

“Jin Tian, Inglis’ China Representative assisted with the sale to Yu Long Investments, which has been a supporter of our stable for the past three years,” said Luke Wilkinson, Bloodstock Manager for Mick Price Racing.

“We are delighted to have the horse in the stable. She will spend the next fortnight at Rockmount and then we will we see where we’re at with her,” Wilkinson said.

“We are aiming to race her over the summer, but we’ll know more once we get her in our system and get a feel for her,” added Wilkinson.

Yu Long Investments continued their strong buying trend with the purchase of another two Lots previously in the Waller stable.

Group 3 winner Our Voodoo Prince (Lot 163), which notched up his most recent victory in last Saturday’s Anzac Handicap at Caulfield, was purchased for $140,000, while seasoned galloper Rugged Cross (Lot 166) sold for $100,000. Both geldings will be trained by Darren Weir.

Leading vendor by average and aggregate (three or more sold) was the ever-popular Darley draft. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s global breeding operation sold all 23 of their offerings for an aggregate of $638,000 and average of $27,739.

“The ongoing support of Darley is greatly appreciated by Inglis and, clearly, the buying bench remains fully supportive of the opportunity to purchase quality bloodstock”, Vivian added.

Darley also offered a service fee to one of their leading Victorian-based sires Helmet as part of the unreserved Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria (TBV) Victorian Stallion Nominations Auction which was held amidst the sale today.

In addition, services were offered to Written Tycoon (Woodside Park Stud), Toorak Toff (Rosemont Stud), Stryker (Three Bridges Thoroughbreds), Puissance de Lune (Swettenham Stud), Statue Of Liberty (Eliza Park International) and Hampton Court (Spendthrift Farm). Collectively, these sales raised $76,000 with all proceeds going toward the promotion of Victorian thoroughbred breeding.

“Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria is very thankful to each of the seven stallion farms for their generous donations of service fees,” said TBV Executive Officer Patrick Clancy.

“The funds raised through this auction will be important to market and promote the Victorian breeding industry and help increase returns to Victorian breeders,” added Clancy.

Inglis Make-An-Offer Service is available on lots that passed-in at the August Thoroughbred Sale.

The next opportunity to secure quality racing prospects is The Star Ready2Race Sale, to be held on 6 October at Inglis’ Newmarket Complex in Sydney. Breeze-ups will be held at Canterbury on Friday 4 September and at Cranbourne on Tuesday 8 September.
